R.E.M

Project Description
This project was based on My Ishamel, which was a book we have been reading in class for a while. We got to pick what we wanted our Reading Enjoyment Maximizer to be from a piece of paper giving us choices. We could do as many as we wanted but I just chose one, which was the Playlist where I picked songs that matched chapters that I had read in the book. And to understand why I picked them I wrote a description on the bottom explaining my reasons why I chose this type of song.
Process
The first steps that I took to start off with this project was explore the different kinds of music there was to go along with my reading. After I started getting the hang of this I got started with the first chapter and then went along with more. I then started finding the meaning of why I was choosing these songs and what beat or rhythem they had that interacted with the chapters. Later on towards the end I went back and revised my work and added one more song to a chapter that could be understood with two songs.
Reflection
What i learned while doing this project was the meaning of each chapter and how I could visualize it more by adding some music to it that expressed the dramatic scenes in them. I also learned how to convey something while explaining it with something different. Some of the challenges that I encountered while doing this project was starting out with the first chapter because I have hard times starting off stuff and making them make sense. Another thing that was challenging for me was trying to figure out what type of music fit each chapter, when all I listen to is Mexican music and I couldnt find any that convinced me to put in. The thing that I would do the same is listen carefully to what the songs say and how the rhythem accompanies it while proving or describing a point. I think that this will help me later on because it will make me more focused and prove that everything has meaning to it.

Hello There: Tick Tock-Kesha
I chose this song for this chapter becuase it talks about how she has her life and how shes living it when something is wrong with it.
Room 105: Cold Dark Room-Tyler Wayne Thompson
I chose this song because it talks about a room where it's dark and how you can't live without seein glight, and this really connects to what the story is about and what they talk about in Room 105.
I Take On The Ape: Getting To Know Each Other-Gerard KennyI chose this song because in this chapter Julie meets Ishmael and they start getting to know each other and they become friends that just have deep conversations.
We Lurch To The Starting Line: We Will Survive-Dj Sanger
I chose this song because of the rhythem that it played and how the beat flowed very smooth and dramatic at the same time while they were having the conversation about how civilization was now in days.
The Daydream: Daydream-Avril Lavigne
I chose this song because it had a really good straight out connection with the chapter whcih was about Julies dream and how she was telling it to Ishmael. The beat also related to this type of writing because it is a very rock and pop theme at the same time that goes with the rhythem that Julie tells her daydream.
Meet Mother Culture: Waving Flag-K’naan
I chose this song because it is a really good song to think about when your reading this chapter since it talks about all the things that are going on around the world and this is a very inspiering song to motivate you to do something for the own good of Mother Culture.
The People Of The Curse: My World-Avril Lavigne
I chose this song because it made me remember reading this chapter because she describes the world being so confusing and everything havign a problem with a simple answer to it that stared us in the face.
The People Of The Curse: Whatever You Like-T.I
I chose this song because of the lyrics that were said since they described how people saw the world and how life was now from getting stuff and money and material stuff.
Your Culture: Live Your Life-T.I. ft Rihanna
I chose this song because of the way it explained how life was in the lyrics and how difficult it is, but also it has a connection to how in this chapter it talked about having your own culture, and the song realtes to this with is lyrics portraying it to the real life experiences.
The History Of Man In 17 Seconds &&Tunes And Dancer: The Big Bang Theory
I chose this song for both chapters because they go together in the sense that they both recap what happened in the past and how everything literally started. Even though the song was kind of into a language that made you think how everything got the way it is now.
A Visit To Calliope: Rising Empire-Immediate Music
I chose this song because it really hits the beat in which the writer changes his dramatic moments and the calm ones.
Calliope, Part 2: Fahrenheit
I chose this song because even though you cant really understand what the lyrics are or what they are saying, the rythem is very cultural to the way the chapter is in it's conversation.

Evelyn Glennie: Shows How To Listen

What will you remember about her performance? Be specific about the experience. &&

Describe what it felt like listening to her play. What factors helped create this moment? You can describe any of the times that she played on either instrument (the Snare drum or Marimba

The thing that I will remember about Evelyn's performance is the part where she plays her instrument. This really caught my attention by the expression that she made in her face, and not only that she really showed much emotion in her hands which was the source of which she played really dramatic and mysterious notes. Whenever she played, it really caught peoples attention because you get to listen while you watch her play and you would of never guessed that it was really complicated playing the way she did, meanwhile being death. I also think that when she played the drums I never figuered that you had to stand in a certain position and also hear the vibrations of the drums in order to know what note you just played. I thought that this was really interesting and very entertaing which is something that I wouldn't really say, but I really liked her performance and I admire her for being death which must be really hard for her even though she is a strong women that came to the music industry and never gave up.

What elements of her performance influenced what the audience heard?

The elements that Evelyn used to make the audience hear what she wanted were typical hand gestures and just literally hitting some type of random thing that she saw to make the audience hear what she wanted them to hear. This basically means that she used anything to make noise out of something that you wouldnt expect for it to hear that way, and make the audience guess what noise she was trying to make.

What did she mean by, "Each person experiences music in their own way"? Think about how you experience music and why everyone doesn't enjoy listening to the same music.

I think that what she ment by this was that people have different ways and perspectives which means that if I interpert something one way another person might hear it differently because they hear through another way or see things at a different level. This means that people have their own personal way of understanding their own music and sounds. I think that the way that I experience music is really different from others because I like to be active and like the loud energetic music, which I know alot of people don't really like, and they won't really enjoy it very much.

What is your name and your role at this Farmers Market?
My name is Juan and my role here at this Farmers Market is selling fresh vegtables at really low prices.

Why do you choose to shop here at the market?
Because I really like it here.

When did you first start coming here?
Like three years ago.

Do you garden at home? Why or why not?
Yes, I do garden at my house since I grow most of my products there, which I think are very healthy.

What would be your advice to get others to do what you do?
My advice to them is that they should really come and do what we do since the food is really good and healthy, and also because there isn't any harmful chemicals that grow with the product.

The thing that struck me from seeing this location is that it looked very different from other grocery stores. It was out doors and very peaceful with many visitors, and also they let you try out their food before you buy it. This was very different from my perspective that I thought about, I thought it was going to be bigger but I can understand that many people can't afford very fresh foods.

The items that were cheaper were the vegetables and all the greens. But the ones that were more expensive were the strawberries, which I didn't expect.
I honestly think I will go more often to a farmers market because of all the fresh vegetables and even though I don't like strawberries that much, they looked so good and fresh at the farmers market.

These locations fit in to the questions because people now in days don't want to live sustainably because it's expensive and sometimes because they don't care. It also fits into the part where I could convince people to start going to places that sell organic foods because I just have to show them and explain how it all works, and then they will know that it's worth it.

Talking These Ideas Out

What has struck you?
What struck me the most about Food Inc. was the part where they talked about the illegal people that work there and get deported when they get fired or try to say something about what they are really doing to the food that is being produced. It is illegal to hire illegal workers in the company but the company has allied with the immigration officers to let them hire illegal people having that as a win win share because then when the companies fire the illegals they tell the immigration officers where to look for them and they have to at least deport 15 illegals everyday. This is really unfair and shows how people can be manipulated really easily just for money, and to produce unhealthy meals for us and our family.

Do you agree or disagree with the concepts? Why?
I strongly agree with the concepts that were being said in the movie because everything is said with a reason and everything thing that is being accused of has prove and reasons why. I think that this movie shows and talks about their different types of reasons why they are doing a documentary that makes the food companies look bad.

How can you apply them to the real world?
I can apply these things by buying locally and always reading what is in my food before I buy it or eat it. Also to encourage others to eat and have a healthier life style.

What do your parents or family members think?
As I was talking about this to my dad he knew what I was talking about and I was surprised because I couldn't believe he didn't care. But later on I was going deep in to what I had seen in the movie, my dad was getting more interested in it and I was glad about it. Now since I talk about it all the time they want to see the movie and learn more about it, they got really interested in it :)

School Daze & School Daze ll

"What one sees first is how far short real schooling falls from the ideal of young minds being awakened! Teachers for the most part would be delighted to awaken young minds, but the system within which they must work fundamentally frustrates that desire by insisting that all minds must be opened in the same order, using the same tools, and at the same pace, on a certain schedule. The teacher is charged with getting the class as a whole to a certain predetermined point in the curriculum by a certain predetermined time, and the individuals that make up the class soon learn how to help the teacher with this task. This is, in a sense, the first thing they must learn. Some learn it quickly and easily and others learn it slowly and painfully, but all eventually learn it."

This quote made me realize that this was true, and the fact that every school was the same and offered to learn the same basic learning strategies was boring, and nobody truly understood what was going on. When I was in middle school I was basically learning the same thing that others were in the same way and students didn't get it straight away because others had different levels of learning. But now ever since I came to High Tech High everything is different, the teachers help you alot more, they give you many more options of doing assignments and homework, and they also give you the special attention that is needed in order for you to truly understand a concept that is being taught. Us teenagers get bored and distracted easily with anything that gets us off school attention, this is why more schools should get the students attention by giving us more tools and resources that we are interested in using and that will benefit our future.

TRAGEdy

ZiiNE LiNK:)
http://students.hthma.hightechhigh.org/~jleon/zine-jocelyn-karina-adriana-lenia.pdf

Pablo is a brown, short Mexican teenager that has dark brown hair and long thick eyelashes that make his eyes look sweeter than he is. Whenever he turned to look at a girl they would just giggle without any joke. He has a very playful side to him that sometimes makes him annoying to other people. Some people look at him and they just laugh at his gestures that he makes even if they were pointless, like winking at someone he didn't know. He tries hiding his emotions by making people laugh and tricking himself into thinking that everything is alright in his family's economic situation, since they are in the year of the crisis. He wants to help out in whatever he can but he doesn't know how. People tell him that the only way he can help his family is by going to the USA and getting a good paid job.
"I have to talk to you guys, mom and dad, it's something very delicate and it will change everything." Pablo spoke in a serious tone of voice which seemed strange since it was rare seeing him serious.
"Pablito what's wrong, what happened?" His mom replied almost frightened of what he was going to say.
"Nothing bad really, but it can change our lives if I go,"
He said in response looking around at the house that was particularly small and very humble.
"Wait! What!Where are you going?" Dona Teresa shouted out with a great stutter.
"Don't worry I'm just going to the other side with all the "gringos"...to help you guys out with the money."
He replied looking into their eyes.
Dona Teresa had a frightened look on her face just thinking about all the bad things that can happen to her son while crossing the border. She had heard many of her friends tell her horrible stories about crossing the border and not coming back. She didn't look so convinced about this idea of his. Everybody suddenly got very silent to the hearing of this idea, Pablo waiting for a response, Dona Teresa thinking and mumbaling words that weren't clear, and Don Carlos just standing there looking at them with a suprised face, which very often occurred. Until Don Carlos jumped up and gave Pablo a great big hug tapping him on the back and saying how much this ment to him. Don Carlos very openly agreed with Pablo and told him that when he was young, going to the other side was his ultimate dream and he was happy to know that one of his kids was going to fufill it. Dona Teresa looked very mournful and ran to Pablo's arms while he was still there, she took a deep breath and tears rolled down her cheeks like rain drops pouring down making his shoulder a puddle of tears.
A few days later Pablo planned everything very detailed and successfully crossed over to the other side with the help of his friends the "polleros." Being there was his ultimate experience and he wanted to find a job as quick as he could so he could send some money to his family. After looking for a job for many days he stood in front of a Jack in the Box, which was very unfamiliar to him since it was awkward looking at a round white face with a triangular looking haton top. He didn't know any English at the time so he went inside and asked to speak with a Mexican.
As he was waiting for a Mexican person to come, he didn't expect for this beautiful golden brown curvy women to come through the door looking for him.
"Hey you must be the Mexican that asked for me, and wants a job. Right?"
She said looking at him up and down and smiling.
"Yes that's me "senorita," I can work as anything." He said trying not to look so foolish in her presence.
"Okay that works for me, stay here and I'll go ask the manager."
He was so happy to find someone that could be his future girlfriend. He wanted that job so badly that he almost crossed his fingers so that the "muchacha" could tell him he had the job. When she was heading towards Pablo he only looked to turn to her and didn't see that behind her was the manager. The manager was very tall, had light pink skin and his eyes popped out with great color of intensity when he gasped to look at him.
Pablo had a big conversation with the "gringo" even though he didn't speak much Spanish, but the girl translated everything he said to him. After he got the job he found out that he would be working with the girl. He didn't pay much attention about introducing himself formally to her before suddenly she came up to him and told him
"By the way I'm Rosa."
He was surprised and replied "I'm Pablo from Durango."
After two years of being in San Diego, California, he sent plenty of money to his parents so that they could be in a stable position and wouldn't need anything else. He was also studying to be a professional photographer, which got him a better job in a modeling agency where they paid him very well for what he liked to do. Rosa and him were also together for quite a while since they were living together. But they were going through a lot of relationship problems that caused them to fight every time they brought up Pablo's job.
"Don’t you scream at me Pablo!" Rosa blurted out from the top of her lungs.
"Well I will if you don't understand." He replied furiously.
Rosa and Pablo had been arguing about the same thing almost everyday now.
"You’re the one that spends most of your time on her!" She screamed with mighty force, letting out a rage of jealousy in her eyes.
Pablo always tries to act professional when it comes to his new job as a photographer. He photographed beautiful models in bikinis which is one of his most feared temptations, but sometimes he gets a little more attracted to them than usual. The only thing that saves him is remembering his girlfriend’s fleshy pallid skin that feels like he is touching a feathery blanket that keeps him warm all the time. He always remembers her delicious enchiladas that she makes when he comes home and he won't change her for anything in the world.
The next day to his suspense, he sees her packing up her belongings and being very anxious to get out of the apartment that when she saw him she immediatly left, without even whispering a word to him. Rosa didn't even have to tell Pablo nothing for their relationship to be officially over, she just disappeared in a matter of minutes. Pablo bent over to the ground on his knees, his look was lost, he wondered of why all of this was happening to him. At that moment this wierd feeling came upon him that made one of his eyes watery, when suddenly a tear rolled down his cheek very unexpectedly. He spontainiously looked down and saw a spot of water on the side of his pants and realized why his mom cried when he was going to leave to the U.S.A. This feeling was very strong, he couldn't help but cry.She had left no where to be found.
When his depression felt too much for him to handle, another big thing happened, his family had been going through another big crisis, but this one was worse. His family was almost living in the streets due to the economic level they were living in. Pablo's money wasn't enough for them anymore so he decided to go back to Mexico and work harder to get their economic situation up.
When he arrives to Durango, he heads towards his family's house and bumps into a man dressed very formal and has the look of someone who isn't always happy. The guy tells him that his parents need to pay the bill of the water, light, and gas or else it would not be given to them. When he looks outside he notices that their situation was worse than ever. His parents were selling stuff in the streets and asking for money to spare from other people. His brothers and sisters don't go to school because they don't have enough money to pay for the semester.
Pablo was shocked when he heard and seemed very confused to what was happening. He immediately talked to his parents and they told him that the economic situation in Mexico wasn't going through so far. He remembered this situation 2 years ago and this time he knew the exact thing to do so they wouldn't be worried about money anymore. He decided to open a bank account in his parent’s names and give them all his savings. At first he saved that money to ask Rosa to marry him, but this was an emergency so he wanted to give it to his family, family always came first for him.
He expected his family to invest the money in clothes and supplies they needed but instead they were smart enough to make a business on their own and make their own money.
Pablo spent his time in Durango very satisfied when he remembered Rosa and all the love he feels for her deep inside him even though she left him. He whispers her name
"RRRR-OOO-SSSS-AAAA"
From that day on he wondered all the great things he could of done with her. He doesn't know what to do with his desperate love for her so he decides to go back to the other side and find her, he wants to propose to her. He quickly runs to his parent’s house telling them the great news and he heads out to cross the border once again. Knowing all the dangerous things that can happen to him if he crosses the border he takes the risk and doesn't stop. He is all ready to cross the border in a car by Tijuana until the immigration patrol finds the driver which runs away leaving Pablo in the trunk of the car. Sadly Pablo dies suficated, while trying to get the trunk open so he can breathe, but it's too late.
His family finds out a week later when his body is found dead in the trunk of a car near the Tijuana border. They are very depressed and shocked by the news thinking that Pablo was going to cross the border safely like last time but they were wrong.
They make a funeral at the house for him and invite Rosa who comes and has the most dreadful expression on her face when she finds out what happened to Pablo. She didn't imagine that this could have happened to him because she really loved him. After everything was over that night Pablo's parents told Rosa about Pablo wanting to propose to her when he got back from Mexico. She took this very hard and started letting out rivers of tears on her face. She quickly turned around and rushed out of the room. Later on the next day Pablo's parents heard that Rosa had taken her life on a bridge near the middle of the city. They responded to the news with a sudden suspense and stayed quiet with a whisper.
"May they come together and rest in peace."

New Dicoveries in 2010!

In 2010 there will be a new and ultimate change when it comes to cars and making them economic. This is all thanks to the new and improved cars that are electric and run on battery other than gas. This falls under technology making the cars even better and functionalble. The big deal with this project is that it will help save gasoline and the enviorment which is very important since we are running out of gasoline mines. For this year everyone will be talking about the leaf car and it's great achievements in technology. We will be seeing more stations where you can charge your car these stations will be placed in malls, and many other public places. The only thing that will be a problem for this great achievement to succed is that you will have to charge it for 6 or more hours depending on the milage you want.
