R.E.M

Project Description
This project was based on My Ishamel, which was a book we have been reading in class for a while. We got to pick what we wanted our Reading Enjoyment Maximizer to be from a piece of paper giving us choices. We could do as many as we wanted but I just chose one, which was the Playlist where I picked songs that matched chapters that I had read in the book. And to understand why I picked them I wrote a description on the bottom explaining my reasons why I chose this type of song.
Process
The first steps that I took to start off with this project was explore the different kinds of music there was to go along with my reading. After I started getting the hang of this I got started with the first chapter and then went along with more. I then started finding the meaning of why I was choosing these songs and what beat or rhythem they had that interacted with the chapters. Later on towards the end I went back and revised my work and added one more song to a chapter that could be understood with two songs.
Reflection
What i learned while doing this project was the meaning of each chapter and how I could visualize it more by adding some music to it that expressed the dramatic scenes in them. I also learned how to convey something while explaining it with something different. Some of the challenges that I encountered while doing this project was starting out with the first chapter because I have hard times starting off stuff and making them make sense. Another thing that was challenging for me was trying to figure out what type of music fit each chapter, when all I listen to is Mexican music and I couldnt find any that convinced me to put in. The thing that I would do the same is listen carefully to what the songs say and how the rhythem accompanies it while proving or describing a point. I think that this will help me later on because it will make me more focused and prove that everything has meaning to it.

Hello There: Tick Tock-Kesha
I chose this song for this chapter becuase it talks about how she has her life and how shes living it when something is wrong with it.
Room 105: Cold Dark Room-Tyler Wayne Thompson
I chose this song because it talks about a room where it's dark and how you can't live without seein glight, and this really connects to what the story is about and what they talk about in Room 105.
I Take On The Ape: Getting To Know Each Other-Gerard KennyI chose this song because in this chapter Julie meets Ishmael and they start getting to know each other and they become friends that just have deep conversations.
We Lurch To The Starting Line: We Will Survive-Dj Sanger
I chose this song because of the rhythem that it played and how the beat flowed very smooth and dramatic at the same time while they were having the conversation about how civilization was now in days.
The Daydream: Daydream-Avril Lavigne
I chose this song because it had a really good straight out connection with the chapter whcih was about Julies dream and how she was telling it to Ishmael. The beat also related to this type of writing because it is a very rock and pop theme at the same time that goes with the rhythem that Julie tells her daydream.
Meet Mother Culture: Waving Flag-K’naan
I chose this song because it is a really good song to think about when your reading this chapter since it talks about all the things that are going on around the world and this is a very inspiering song to motivate you to do something for the own good of Mother Culture.
The People Of The Curse: My World-Avril Lavigne
I chose this song because it made me remember reading this chapter because she describes the world being so confusing and everything havign a problem with a simple answer to it that stared us in the face.
The People Of The Curse: Whatever You Like-T.I
I chose this song because of the lyrics that were said since they described how people saw the world and how life was now from getting stuff and money and material stuff.
Your Culture: Live Your Life-T.I. ft Rihanna
I chose this song because of the way it explained how life was in the lyrics and how difficult it is, but also it has a connection to how in this chapter it talked about having your own culture, and the song realtes to this with is lyrics portraying it to the real life experiences.
The History Of Man In 17 Seconds &&Tunes And Dancer: The Big Bang Theory
I chose this song for both chapters because they go together in the sense that they both recap what happened in the past and how everything literally started. Even though the song was kind of into a language that made you think how everything got the way it is now.
A Visit To Calliope: Rising Empire-Immediate Music
I chose this song because it really hits the beat in which the writer changes his dramatic moments and the calm ones.
Calliope, Part 2: Fahrenheit
I chose this song because even though you cant really understand what the lyrics are or what they are saying, the rythem is very cultural to the way the chapter is in it's conversation.

Evelyn Glennie: Shows How To Listen

What will you remember about her performance? Be specific about the experience. &&

Describe what it felt like listening to her play. What factors helped create this moment? You can describe any of the times that she played on either instrument (the Snare drum or Marimba

The thing that I will remember about Evelyn's performance is the part where she plays her instrument. This really caught my attention by the expression that she made in her face, and not only that she really showed much emotion in her hands which was the source of which she played really dramatic and mysterious notes. Whenever she played, it really caught peoples attention because you get to listen while you watch her play and you would of never guessed that it was really complicated playing the way she did, meanwhile being death. I also think that when she played the drums I never figuered that you had to stand in a certain position and also hear the vibrations of the drums in order to know what note you just played. I thought that this was really interesting and very entertaing which is something that I wouldn't really say, but I really liked her performance and I admire her for being death which must be really hard for her even though she is a strong women that came to the music industry and never gave up.

What elements of her performance influenced what the audience heard?

The elements that Evelyn used to make the audience hear what she wanted were typical hand gestures and just literally hitting some type of random thing that she saw to make the audience hear what she wanted them to hear. This basically means that she used anything to make noise out of something that you wouldnt expect for it to hear that way, and make the audience guess what noise she was trying to make.

What did she mean by, "Each person experiences music in their own way"? Think about how you experience music and why everyone doesn't enjoy listening to the same music.

I think that what she ment by this was that people have different ways and perspectives which means that if I interpert something one way another person might hear it differently because they hear through another way or see things at a different level. This means that people have their own personal way of understanding their own music and sounds. I think that the way that I experience music is really different from others because I like to be active and like the loud energetic music, which I know alot of people don't really like, and they won't really enjoy it very much.

What is your name and your role at this Farmers Market?
My name is Juan and my role here at this Farmers Market is selling fresh vegtables at really low prices.

Why do you choose to shop here at the market?
Because I really like it here.

When did you first start coming here?
Like three years ago.

Do you garden at home? Why or why not?
Yes, I do garden at my house since I grow most of my products there, which I think are very healthy.

What would be your advice to get others to do what you do?
My advice to them is that they should really come and do what we do since the food is really good and healthy, and also because there isn't any harmful chemicals that grow with the product.

The thing that struck me from seeing this location is that it looked very different from other grocery stores. It was out doors and very peaceful with many visitors, and also they let you try out their food before you buy it. This was very different from my perspective that I thought about, I thought it was going to be bigger but I can understand that many people can't afford very fresh foods.

The items that were cheaper were the vegetables and all the greens. But the ones that were more expensive were the strawberries, which I didn't expect.
I honestly think I will go more often to a farmers market because of all the fresh vegetables and even though I don't like strawberries that much, they looked so good and fresh at the farmers market.

These locations fit in to the questions because people now in days don't want to live sustainably because it's expensive and sometimes because they don't care. It also fits into the part where I could convince people to start going to places that sell organic foods because I just have to show them and explain how it all works, and then they will know that it's worth it.

Talking These Ideas Out

What has struck you?
What struck me the most about Food Inc. was the part where they talked about the illegal people that work there and get deported when they get fired or try to say something about what they are really doing to the food that is being produced. It is illegal to hire illegal workers in the company but the company has allied with the immigration officers to let them hire illegal people having that as a win win share because then when the companies fire the illegals they tell the immigration officers where to look for them and they have to at least deport 15 illegals everyday. This is really unfair and shows how people can be manipulated really easily just for money, and to produce unhealthy meals for us and our family.

Do you agree or disagree with the concepts? Why?
I strongly agree with the concepts that were being said in the movie because everything is said with a reason and everything thing that is being accused of has prove and reasons why. I think that this movie shows and talks about their different types of reasons why they are doing a documentary that makes the food companies look bad.

How can you apply them to the real world?
I can apply these things by buying locally and always reading what is in my food before I buy it or eat it. Also to encourage others to eat and have a healthier life style.

What do your parents or family members think?
As I was talking about this to my dad he knew what I was talking about and I was surprised because I couldn't believe he didn't care. But later on I was going deep in to what I had seen in the movie, my dad was getting more interested in it and I was glad about it. Now since I talk about it all the time they want to see the movie and learn more about it, they got really interested in it :)

School Daze & School Daze ll

"What one sees first is how far short real schooling falls from the ideal of young minds being awakened! Teachers for the most part would be delighted to awaken young minds, but the system within which they must work fundamentally frustrates that desire by insisting that all minds must be opened in the same order, using the same tools, and at the same pace, on a certain schedule. The teacher is charged with getting the class as a whole to a certain predetermined point in the curriculum by a certain predetermined time, and the individuals that make up the class soon learn how to help the teacher with this task. This is, in a sense, the first thing they must learn. Some learn it quickly and easily and others learn it slowly and painfully, but all eventually learn it."

This quote made me realize that this was true, and the fact that every school was the same and offered to learn the same basic learning strategies was boring, and nobody truly understood what was going on. When I was in middle school I was basically learning the same thing that others were in the same way and students didn't get it straight away because others had different levels of learning. But now ever since I came to High Tech High everything is different, the teachers help you alot more, they give you many more options of doing assignments and homework, and they also give you the special attention that is needed in order for you to truly understand a concept that is being taught. Us teenagers get bored and distracted easily with anything that gets us off school attention, this is why more schools should get the students attention by giving us more tools and resources that we are interested in using and that will benefit our future.

TRAGEdy

ZiiNE LiNK:)
http://students.hthma.hightechhigh.org/~jleon/zine-jocelyn-karina-adriana-lenia.pdf

Pablo is a brown, short Mexican teenager that has dark brown hair and long thick eyelashes that make his eyes look sweeter than he is. Whenever he turned to look at a girl they would just giggle without any joke. He has a very playful side to him that sometimes makes him annoying to other people. Some people look at him and they just laugh at his gestures that he makes even if they were pointless, like winking at someone he didn't know. He tries hiding his emotions by making people laugh and tricking himself into thinking that everything is alright in his family's economic situation, since they are in the year of the crisis. He wants to help out in whatever he can but he doesn't know how. People tell him that the only way he can help his family is by going to the USA and getting a good paid job.
"I have to talk to you guys, mom and dad, it's something very delicate and it will change everything." Pablo spoke in a serious tone of voice which seemed strange since it was rare seeing him serious.
"Pablito what's wrong, what happened?" His mom replied almost frightened of what he was going to say.
"Nothing bad really, but it can change our lives if I go,"
He said in response looking around at the house that was particularly small and very humble.
"Wait! What!Where are you going?" Dona Teresa shouted out with a great stutter.
"Don't worry I'm just going to the other side with all the "gringos"...to help you guys out with the money."
He replied looking into their eyes.
Dona Teresa had a frightened look on her face just thinking about all the bad things that can happen to her son while crossing the border. She had heard many of her friends tell her horrible stories about crossing the border and not coming back. She didn't look so convinced about this idea of his. Everybody suddenly got very silent to the hearing of this idea, Pablo waiting for a response, Dona Teresa thinking and mumbaling words that weren't clear, and Don Carlos just standing there looking at them with a suprised face, which very often occurred. Until Don Carlos jumped up and gave Pablo a great big hug tapping him on the back and saying how much this ment to him. Don Carlos very openly agreed with Pablo and told him that when he was young, going to the other side was his ultimate dream and he was happy to know that one of his kids was going to fufill it. Dona Teresa looked very mournful and ran to Pablo's arms while he was still there, she took a deep breath and tears rolled down her cheeks like rain drops pouring down making his shoulder a puddle of tears.
A few days later Pablo planned everything very detailed and successfully crossed over to the other side with the help of his friends the "polleros." Being there was his ultimate experience and he wanted to find a job as quick as he could so he could send some money to his family. After looking for a job for many days he stood in front of a Jack in the Box, which was very unfamiliar to him since it was awkward looking at a round white face with a triangular looking haton top. He didn't know any English at the time so he went inside and asked to speak with a Mexican.
As he was waiting for a Mexican person to come, he didn't expect for this beautiful golden brown curvy women to come through the door looking for him.
"Hey you must be the Mexican that asked for me, and wants a job. Right?"
She said looking at him up and down and smiling.
"Yes that's me "senorita," I can work as anything." He said trying not to look so foolish in her presence.
"Okay that works for me, stay here and I'll go ask the manager."
He was so happy to find someone that could be his future girlfriend. He wanted that job so badly that he almost crossed his fingers so that the "muchacha" could tell him he had the job. When she was heading towards Pablo he only looked to turn to her and didn't see that behind her was the manager. The manager was very tall, had light pink skin and his eyes popped out with great color of intensity when he gasped to look at him.
Pablo had a big conversation with the "gringo" even though he didn't speak much Spanish, but the girl translated everything he said to him. After he got the job he found out that he would be working with the girl. He didn't pay much attention about introducing himself formally to her before suddenly she came up to him and told him
"By the way I'm Rosa."
He was surprised and replied "I'm Pablo from Durango."
After two years of being in San Diego, California, he sent plenty of money to his parents so that they could be in a stable position and wouldn't need anything else. He was also studying to be a professional photographer, which got him a better job in a modeling agency where they paid him very well for what he liked to do. Rosa and him were also together for quite a while since they were living together. But they were going through a lot of relationship problems that caused them to fight every time they brought up Pablo's job.
"Don’t you scream at me Pablo!" Rosa blurted out from the top of her lungs.
"Well I will if you don't understand." He replied furiously.
Rosa and Pablo had been arguing about the same thing almost everyday now.
"You’re the one that spends most of your time on her!" She screamed with mighty force, letting out a rage of jealousy in her eyes.
Pablo always tries to act professional when it comes to his new job as a photographer. He photographed beautiful models in bikinis which is one of his most feared temptations, but sometimes he gets a little more attracted to them than usual. The only thing that saves him is remembering his girlfriend’s fleshy pallid skin that feels like he is touching a feathery blanket that keeps him warm all the time. He always remembers her delicious enchiladas that she makes when he comes home and he won't change her for anything in the world.
The next day to his suspense, he sees her packing up her belongings and being very anxious to get out of the apartment that when she saw him she immediatly left, without even whispering a word to him. Rosa didn't even have to tell Pablo nothing for their relationship to be officially over, she just disappeared in a matter of minutes. Pablo bent over to the ground on his knees, his look was lost, he wondered of why all of this was happening to him. At that moment this wierd feeling came upon him that made one of his eyes watery, when suddenly a tear rolled down his cheek very unexpectedly. He spontainiously looked down and saw a spot of water on the side of his pants and realized why his mom cried when he was going to leave to the U.S.A. This feeling was very strong, he couldn't help but cry.She had left no where to be found.
When his depression felt too much for him to handle, another big thing happened, his family had been going through another big crisis, but this one was worse. His family was almost living in the streets due to the economic level they were living in. Pablo's money wasn't enough for them anymore so he decided to go back to Mexico and work harder to get their economic situation up.
When he arrives to Durango, he heads towards his family's house and bumps into a man dressed very formal and has the look of someone who isn't always happy. The guy tells him that his parents need to pay the bill of the water, light, and gas or else it would not be given to them. When he looks outside he notices that their situation was worse than ever. His parents were selling stuff in the streets and asking for money to spare from other people. His brothers and sisters don't go to school because they don't have enough money to pay for the semester.
Pablo was shocked when he heard and seemed very confused to what was happening. He immediately talked to his parents and they told him that the economic situation in Mexico wasn't going through so far. He remembered this situation 2 years ago and this time he knew the exact thing to do so they wouldn't be worried about money anymore. He decided to open a bank account in his parent’s names and give them all his savings. At first he saved that money to ask Rosa to marry him, but this was an emergency so he wanted to give it to his family, family always came first for him.
He expected his family to invest the money in clothes and supplies they needed but instead they were smart enough to make a business on their own and make their own money.
Pablo spent his time in Durango very satisfied when he remembered Rosa and all the love he feels for her deep inside him even though she left him. He whispers her name
"RRRR-OOO-SSSS-AAAA"
From that day on he wondered all the great things he could of done with her. He doesn't know what to do with his desperate love for her so he decides to go back to the other side and find her, he wants to propose to her. He quickly runs to his parent’s house telling them the great news and he heads out to cross the border once again. Knowing all the dangerous things that can happen to him if he crosses the border he takes the risk and doesn't stop. He is all ready to cross the border in a car by Tijuana until the immigration patrol finds the driver which runs away leaving Pablo in the trunk of the car. Sadly Pablo dies suficated, while trying to get the trunk open so he can breathe, but it's too late.
His family finds out a week later when his body is found dead in the trunk of a car near the Tijuana border. They are very depressed and shocked by the news thinking that Pablo was going to cross the border safely like last time but they were wrong.
They make a funeral at the house for him and invite Rosa who comes and has the most dreadful expression on her face when she finds out what happened to Pablo. She didn't imagine that this could have happened to him because she really loved him. After everything was over that night Pablo's parents told Rosa about Pablo wanting to propose to her when he got back from Mexico. She took this very hard and started letting out rivers of tears on her face. She quickly turned around and rushed out of the room. Later on the next day Pablo's parents heard that Rosa had taken her life on a bridge near the middle of the city. They responded to the news with a sudden suspense and stayed quiet with a whisper.
"May they come together and rest in peace."

New Dicoveries in 2010!

In 2010 there will be a new and ultimate change when it comes to cars and making them economic. This is all thanks to the new and improved cars that are electric and run on battery other than gas. This falls under technology making the cars even better and functionalble. The big deal with this project is that it will help save gasoline and the enviorment which is very important since we are running out of gasoline mines. For this year everyone will be talking about the leaf car and it's great achievements in technology. We will be seeing more stations where you can charge your car these stations will be placed in malls, and many other public places. The only thing that will be a problem for this great achievement to succed is that you will have to charge it for 6 or more hours depending on the milage you want.

New Dicoveries in 2010!

This new 2010 discovery is very modern and makes everyone happy, I am talking about TV on the Go! This new system will broadcast in select cities and will immediatly transfer big games or other stuff to cell phones, net books and to the big screen TV's. This great big thing falls under the entertainment series becuase of all the people that will be entertained. The big deal with this new discovery is that people won't have to be spending $3.oo a minute while it cost less than a penny to broadcast it all over the digital devices. For this year there will be products that have this broadcast for free and they will soon be everywhere. There will also be USB dongles that act like TV antennas for laptops and will go on sale nationwide. The problem with the success of this new function is that for each tower it will cost about $150,000 in every major city.

My Academic Goals For Humanities

1.One of my first goals that I have set for myself is to try to use at least three of the habits of mind. I really think that this could help me succeed more in the semester because since we saw the TED talk on, Are Schools Killing Creativity? This made me think a lot about how I could be as creative as I want to be since the habits of mind have different kind of skills that make me grow and expand what I can do with my creativeness and my own personal skills in school.

2.The second goal that I will like to set for myself for this semester in humanities is to work on my writing skills and write more than a page when it comes to a 15 minute WEX. I would like to use more of the things that I have learned in the last semester so I could apply it to my writing more often and also add in the new things that I will be learning this semester. My writing will improve and get more visual from the readers perspective.

3.The last goal that I will be setting for myself this semester is to try to stay focused as possibly as I can. Sometimes I can get off task really easily for the littlest things like for instance I talk a lot with my friends and socialize pretty much. I want to try to stay focused so that later on I won’t be asking questions for the things that have been taught already. I think that this can also help me with turning my work on time because sometimes we can work outside of the classroom and Charlotte gives us that opportunity to work on our homework and to turn it in on time. But sometimes I get off task and that affects me in my late work so I set this goal for me to stay on task.

My Academic Goals For Mysics

1. Instead of just staring at my brain book and not having an answer to the IN, I will actually try to do it and not wait until other people say the answers.

The first step that I will take to try to succeed this goal is to ask help when I need it and take the time to actually try the IN even though sometimes it’s going to be a challenge for me.

2. I will ask questions when we are learning something new.

The first step that I will need to take is, pay close attention to what subject we are learning and ask myself if I need help understanding it better, this will help me to not be confused later on when we are reviewing it.

3. Don’t try to turn in my work late and get half credit.

The first step that I will take for this is to remember the day the homework is due and try to start it and finish it before it’s due so I won’t get behind. I can also do the assignment the day they give it to me so I won’t forget about it.

HERO pROjECT REFLECTiON!

I think that a Hero becomes what he/she is because people admire their grateful actions and they always put others before themselves, but sometimes it depends on your perspective that you see them.
The hero in my eyes project is about seeing someone as your hero and recognizing them as being a hero to you by writing about how they are a hero, or else writing about one moment that you considered special to you and your hero because he/she made a heroic action towards you or the community. Throughout the project we had to think of what makes your hero a hero and why you chose to write about them. This meant really focusing on making your reader understand why your hero was a hero to you. After several drafts and correcting papers to specify why your person is a hero to you, we got to finally putting it into a template and putting two of our favorite pictures of our hero in the template.
The steps that I took to getting to my final product were really hard and I had some trouble getting in the process of finishing it, but at the end it turned out great. The first step that I took was brainstorming who my real hero was in my life and who I could write about in specific detail. This took me a while but I finally got to the point where I chose my mom. After I got finished with that, I got to working on my first draft writing about one moment where my mom was a hero to me, and other qualities she had that made her a hero to other people too. Later on I revised my drafts and it was really hard meeting up to the requirements that it had to be in. At the time I wasn’t really good in incorporating a lot of detail into my writing and I had to show not tell, which I was getting alone pretty well. This process took a while but I honestly got my final draft done on time and I was really proud of what it turned out to look like. And my final step now was to put it in a template format, which I had a little trouble doing because there was a length requirement in how many words we had to have. This was a problem to me because I had more words that didn’t fit in the template so I had to erase some sentences and make it fit all in. And this turned out to be my final product which made me proud but I only had to make some finishing touches that were to insert two of my favorite pictures of my mom in the sides of the templates and there it was my beautiful piece.
I learned a lot of great new things about this project and what it’s based on. I learned that you don’t have to have superhero powers to make that person your hero or base what you think of a hero to be in a fictional character. I learned a lot of different ways to define the word hero and other people’s perspective on it and what they think it means to them. In this project I encountered a lot of difficult problems that I struggled with like when it was time to choose a hero I had trouble choosing over my mom and my dad. I also had some trouble in revising my drafts because I really didn’t understand how I was supposed to include a lot more showing and not telling because this painted a picture in the readers mind, and I had trouble finding the areas where I was supposed to include more details, and describe the moment more. The only thing that I would do the same is turn in all my drafts on time so that I could get some good feedback and not wait until the last moment. I think that later on in my life this subject is going to help me because I want to grow up to be a hero in someone’s eyes and to do that I have to know the definition of what a hero is and I want to demonstrate that by being one myself.
As I was writing my essay I decided to included perspective on my paper because I think that everyone has a different perspective on different subjects and in this case to me a hero is someone who takes care of me and makes my wishes come true and also someone who gives up something to give it to another person and that’s why I chose to write about my mom. It also related to my writing because I had a very different perspective of what a hero was based on what I wrote about my mom and her moment with me getting me my dress.

HERO CHARACTER SKETCH

“Dreams Come True"
Looking out through the top of the window I spy my mom getting into the car, I focus on the top of her head realizing that her hair looked reddish and shiny with a touch of gold seeming that the sun was making her highlights stand out. I walked outside catching up to her when she was walking into the car, I told her that we didn't have to go today, knowing that she had came out of her first job and she had to rest.
"Ama let's just go on the weekend so you can rest, yeah?" I spoke softly, seeing her crumbled up in her seat wanting to get comfortable.
"No that's okay I promised you that we were getting your Quinceanera dress today and we are going. A promise is a promise, okay?" she replied sounding firm as she said the last part.
"Orale pues ama."
She then started the car with a quick silence making the moment feel awkward only hearing the sound of keys clinging together against each other. As I looked through the rear mirror I saw the veins in her pupil’s red and tired with bags under her eyes without any sleep.
She had always put her children first and made time for them but didn't have enough left for herself. Sometimes I thought about how she never got to do the things I did or have the things that I had but she is a strong woman who works to give her children the things that she and my dad never had.
When we were getting out of the last store, I looked at another store that was right next door, surprisingly I gasped to the appearance of the most beautiful Quinceanera dress that I had always imagined. I ran to get my mom's hand dragging her all the way inside the store wanting her to have the same reaction as I did when I saw the dress.
"That's the one," I blurted out.
"Oh my god, it's amazingly beautiful, yup that's the one." she said bringing her eyes to sparkle with the shine in the beads.
It was the perfect tone of color, green with a texture of gold mixed into it making it glow bright as the colors of a tree. It was impressingly poofy and sparkling having a corset designed with all these silver beads coming together to form beautiful little flowers, sparkling to the touch of light. At the center of the corset there was a thin piece of fabric that was bright green with only four diamonds in the middle making the dress come together being perfect, as I always imagined.
When we were sealing the deal with the story lady she had very big glasses and it was strange that she had measuring tape around her neck ever since we came in. After that I knew she had to measure my sizes and somehow she knew from the beginning that I was going to get the dress already. At that time I had realized that I was going to wear the most beautiful dress on my Quinceanera day, and this was all thanks to my mom. When I heard the store lady say,
"It's all yours, sold." I couldn't make my ears translate the words so that I could realize it was really true.
The first thing that I did was go over to my mom and give her the biggest hug ever. It was so warm and reliving to have all this happiness land into her arms as appreciation. I stood looking back at her with silence; suddenly she broke the silence saying that if this made me happy it made her happy.
"I am so thankful for you working so hard to make me this dream a reality." I said, comforting myself in her arms.
"Karina, even though I didn't have a Quinceanera it makes me happy that with you having one, everyone's dreams come true." she said radiantly having a big smile.

THE ORiGiN Of ZERO?

What strikes you about the articles? The thing that strikes me about the articles is that they talk a lot about the origin in where the number zero came from, and how people used it in different states and countries. It also stiked me that it was mostly geography that had to do with the existence of the number and because people found evidence that they used it 5,000 years ago. This number is really easy to understand because it’s like if it didn’t exist but it has a symbol that replaces a number, but means a different place value holder. There was a part which caught my eye, it talked about how in different states they use this number in different forms and was odd seeing it used like that in these days.

How do we decide who discovers what? When someone gets his/her invention named after them.

Who really discovered zero? In the articles it doesn’t really tell who discovers zero, but it says where it came from and how long ago it traveled to different kinds of people. However, one of the articles explains somewhat of where this number originally came from, because Charles Seife had given some information.
"There are at least two discoveries, or inventions, of zero," says Charles Seife, author of Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea (Viking, 2000). "The one that we got the zero from came from the Fertile Crescent." It first came to be between 400 and 300 B.C. in Babylon, Seife says, before developing in India, wending its way through northern Africa and, in Fibonacci's hands, crossing into Europe via Italy.

Is it the person who came up with the concept of zero or the person who discovered the actual number? It was the person who came up with the concept of the number zero because he introduced it to everybody but he disn't quite discover it.
And how did the entire world come to a consensus without an efficient means of communication? Because the number zero came to being from one country to the other and that's how it spread all over the world but it had a differet symbol to it.

LiTERARy dEViCES

Catching the signal from one of her friends, Adriana brushed her skirt, took a deep breath and walked towards where he was sitting. She couldn’t believe that he was right there feeling his warm arm touching hers every time she got closer. As she looked towards Miguel she seemed overly happy and delusional to the fact that he just came to see her. When she reached out to say hi, he grabbed her shoulder and gave her a kiss on the cheek. This made Adriana turn red as a tomato feeling butterflies in her stomach and giggling every time he said something awkward.
Making a stop in front of Horton Plaza, Miguel suddenly starts conversating with Adriana wile they were walking into the mall.
“Hey how was your day today at school.” He said in a deep silent voice awkwardly bumping in to a trash can.
“Well it was pretty alright, I guess and you?” She said laughing at him while he was putting the trash can in to place.
“Yea, well the same old same old, it never changes.”
They had walked all over the mall wanting to go to the movies but none of them dared to invite each other. This was like the time when Adriana was still in middle school ad her crush wanted to go to the movies but never had the nerve to invite her. It was pretty clear to Adriana how guys were just really shy when it came to showing some sensibility. Miguel was totally different from the guys Adriana hanged out with because he was more mature and she liked his clown personality over all.
As they came across the movies again Miguel finally asked Adriana if she wanted to see a movie.
“Hey let’s go in and see a scary movie, yea?” He said nervously playing with his fingers.
“No not really, I don’t have money right now.” She replied looking the other way.
“Oh that’s okay I’ll pay for you okay”
“No I don’t want you to.”
“Come on for reals.”
“Oh my god no.”
“Fine then, but were still going in, because your coming with me.” He said firmly.
Meanwhile the line for the movie tickets was getting shorter, Adriana was mad and didn’t like the idea as much. You could tell by the fierce expression that she had when you looked at her in the eyes. When it was time for Miguel to pay for the movie tickets, Adriana realized that she was wrong in having such a bad attitude earlier, and gave Miguel a big long hug. She knew now that he was doing this so he could spend more time with her.

The Mysterious Sound
It sounds like a slithering snake making a pattern with it's tounge over and over again. The rattlesnakes sound like if a string is being pulled making a squeaky sound when it's let go. The pitch is high but its continues to wonder off in to a certain pattern that at the ending part it repeats faster. As the the beginning seems to fade off, there's a repetition of a bang after ten seconds of the sound starting. This only happens two times every five seconds continuing with the normal sound. Later on in the middle a differnet sound comes in the background sounding like a dog barking every three seconds. This continues after the end is almost near, then it stops and suddenly appeared barking out of nowhere for the last time. Have you ever been to the Amozan jungle? Well I think that with all the noctornal animals seeking through the night and making these strange sounds it could actually sound like this. Anyone can actually hear this sound by just walking outside. Hearing the small insects that come in the night make you imagine and think that they are many different things. But once you get to hear it really well you understand it and try figuring out. I couldn't have imagined myself that this was just the cicada chorus signals the arrival of summer in New Zealand.

First Day of High School

My alarm clock went off as loud as a honk in my ear; I woke up frightened not knowing what was going on. I suddenly got up and moaned, and it straight up hit me,” People aren't going to see me as a child anymore", I said comforting myself in the soft cushions next to my warm bed. I reminded myself about last night before going to bed, closing my eyes trying to not feel all these emotions that I was going to go through today. I had millions of questions about how everything would turn out. I opened my eyes with a quick jump out of my bed fidgeting to open the window gracing in the coldness of the mist and hearing birds chirping a melodies song through the hollow trees. This made me feel more peaceful and rethink that today was going to be my first day as a freshman at High Tech High Media Arts. Thinking about freshman year and how it was going to be like, I got a tingle in my stomach and put a big smile on my face, trying not to show that I was really nervous inside.

I got into my favorite shirt that I had picked out last night; it had colorful squares on it and made my personality stand out. In the process of finishing, I quickly ran to the bathroom beating my brother, knowing that he was going to take an hour. Finding myself through the door removing his arm from the gold doorknob he made fuzz as he left. My thoughts couldn't be removed even though I lost half of my memory I thought about many things that were going through my mind, how life as a high schooler was going to be like? What were the teachers like? Were my friends going to be there? Is it going to be harder than last year? I even got to thinking that sometimes people suddenly change in their moment of glory. I wondered if I would mature more and be a part of the older people that looked at life in a different way than others. My brother always warned me that it was no fun and games at times but you had more privileges if you could handle them.

As I walked slowly down the hallway passing by a mirror I spotted my reflection going right through me, I looked at this unexpectedly. It was just staring at me trying to look for something in me that I couldn't find. I looked up and down at myself noticing that I had already turned into a different person than I was before. I had that look on my face that said, "What the heck am I thinking." Then I started reflecting on what my thoughts were awhile ago, and they all made sense now. At that moment in time I knew my life wasn't going to be the same anymore. All of these questions and thoughts that had been wondering in my head without any answers were finally figured out and resolved. Now people were going to look at me in a different way, and I would experience more things than I would ever imagine. This really opened my eyes and I got excited to meet new people and achieve new goals that I had set for this year.

LOCKER PROBLEM<3

CREATEd by KARiNA FELiX
1,000 students have opened and shut lockers according to who came first. So the first one came and opened every locker. The next student suddenly came and closed every other locker. This pattern started repeating until at the end. In total the answer was that there was 31 lockers opened. The reason of getting the answer was because there was a certain pattern that was going on with the lockers. It was 1 open, 2 shut, 1 open, 4 shut, 1 open, 6 shut.....etc. All the numbers with perfect squares have odd number of factors and thats why they were opened and the rest were shut. There was 31 perfect squares in total from 1-1,000.

SLOb CHARACTER: WHAT SHE did OVER THE WEEKENd:)

June
It was a Saturday morning when I got up very early to a loud noise coming from outside my room. It came to being May and Rosaleen cleaning up the house. They sang the "Oh Susana" song while doing chores. This made May be more relaxed because she always hummed it when she was happy or when something was bothering her. I woke up with a bad mood and I really didn't want to talk to anybody or be disturbed. As I was walking down the stairs i felt the smooth hand rail on my hand going down as soft as not even feeling anything there. All of a sudden I bump into Lily hoping she doesn't talk to me in any sored of way.

"Good morning June! Did you have a good nights rest?" Lily said with a big and bright smile on her face, while holding a jar of honey.

In my mind I thought, why is she still here? or when will she leave? I didn't want to sound mean or disrespectful so I just responded to her question.

"Yeah sure I guess I slept pretty good last night" I tried saying this with a straight face but I was in a bad mood so my face looked uncalled for.

I didn't have much appetite for that mornings breakfast knowing that there had to be at least honey in the meal. So I just grabbed myself a cup of coffee and went to the living room to see some TV. I wiggled my hand into the sofas cushion's because the control had been stuffed there somehow, to my surprise my coffee had spilled on the sofa leaving a big brown stain that looked horrible. Trying to clean it I tried scraping it with hot water and a piece of cloth. While I was doing that I happened to look outside the window and see that Neil was standing right upfront of the porch. He looked so handsome with his ripped shirt that looked like he had worked out in the fields doing some sort of dirt job. I didn't pay attention to that other than the fact that he was tall and had a way of flexing every time he moved. Stepping in the house his sudden words were

" Is June around"

I quickly ran up to him and said hi. I invited him in to the living room where the big stain was and told him it was an accident. He didn't really mind and headed to see the cello. I remembered that he wanted me to give him lessons on how to play, so I asked him if he wanted I could play for him. So we just scattered around and played the Cello the whole morning while laughing and talking amongst ourselves.

My SUPERHERO

bATMAN
Being one of my favorite fictional heroes with his mysterious black cape he is known as the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, the Dark Knight Detective, he is originally the Batman co-created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, whom parents died in front of him while walking through a dark alley, being both shot and leaving him an orphan. He now seeks revenge on the person who murdered his parents trying to find him all through Gotham City. He is left alone being a billionaire playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist, even though he is not really happy with that. He has trained and prepared himself physically and mentally to wonder the nights of Gotham City in search of villans while having an all black formed costume covering his identity. Sometimes rarely accompanied by his sidekick Robin or Cat women who appear only if he needs assistance if there's any problem getting out of control.

I really came to admiring this character a lot because of his ability to fight with his villans without having any type of superpowers, like other super heroes. This to me shows that you can do anything if only you set your mind to it, without having any special thing to back you up. I really like the way he uses all his resources, like making use of his intellect, detective skills, science, technology and wealth that he uses to put in action his plans and ways to fight crime.
He is one of my favorite characters because when I saw the superhero league, he standed out the most to me because he looked very mysterious and I loved his all black with gray costume that he had compared to the colorful costumes that the other superheroes had.

I like the way the author wrote this fictional series because he didn't copy other superhero stories based on how they got into a chemical accident and that's where they got their superpowers. I actually think that this is a very original fictional story according to the type of comic series he was trying to complete. Batman became a popular character soon after his introduction and gained his own comic book title, Batman, in 1940. This character appears on a variety of merchandise sold all over the world.
