HERO pROjECT REFLECTiON!

I think that a Hero becomes what he/she is because people admire their grateful actions and they always put others before themselves, but sometimes it depends on your perspective that you see them.
The hero in my eyes project is about seeing someone as your hero and recognizing them as being a hero to you by writing about how they are a hero, or else writing about one moment that you considered special to you and your hero because he/she made a heroic action towards you or the community. Throughout the project we had to think of what makes your hero a hero and why you chose to write about them. This meant really focusing on making your reader understand why your hero was a hero to you. After several drafts and correcting papers to specify why your person is a hero to you, we got to finally putting it into a template and putting two of our favorite pictures of our hero in the template.
The steps that I took to getting to my final product were really hard and I had some trouble getting in the process of finishing it, but at the end it turned out great. The first step that I took was brainstorming who my real hero was in my life and who I could write about in specific detail. This took me a while but I finally got to the point where I chose my mom. After I got finished with that, I got to working on my first draft writing about one moment where my mom was a hero to me, and other qualities she had that made her a hero to other people too. Later on I revised my drafts and it was really hard meeting up to the requirements that it had to be in. At the time I wasn’t really good in incorporating a lot of detail into my writing and I had to show not tell, which I was getting alone pretty well. This process took a while but I honestly got my final draft done on time and I was really proud of what it turned out to look like. And my final step now was to put it in a template format, which I had a little trouble doing because there was a length requirement in how many words we had to have. This was a problem to me because I had more words that didn’t fit in the template so I had to erase some sentences and make it fit all in. And this turned out to be my final product which made me proud but I only had to make some finishing touches that were to insert two of my favorite pictures of my mom in the sides of the templates and there it was my beautiful piece.
I learned a lot of great new things about this project and what it’s based on. I learned that you don’t have to have superhero powers to make that person your hero or base what you think of a hero to be in a fictional character. I learned a lot of different ways to define the word hero and other people’s perspective on it and what they think it means to them. In this project I encountered a lot of difficult problems that I struggled with like when it was time to choose a hero I had trouble choosing over my mom and my dad. I also had some trouble in revising my drafts because I really didn’t understand how I was supposed to include a lot more showing and not telling because this painted a picture in the readers mind, and I had trouble finding the areas where I was supposed to include more details, and describe the moment more. The only thing that I would do the same is turn in all my drafts on time so that I could get some good feedback and not wait until the last moment. I think that later on in my life this subject is going to help me because I want to grow up to be a hero in someone’s eyes and to do that I have to know the definition of what a hero is and I want to demonstrate that by being one myself.
As I was writing my essay I decided to included perspective on my paper because I think that everyone has a different perspective on different subjects and in this case to me a hero is someone who takes care of me and makes my wishes come true and also someone who gives up something to give it to another person and that’s why I chose to write about my mom. It also related to my writing because I had a very different perspective of what a hero was based on what I wrote about my mom and her moment with me getting me my dress.

HERO CHARACTER SKETCH

“Dreams Come True"
Looking out through the top of the window I spy my mom getting into the car, I focus on the top of her head realizing that her hair looked reddish and shiny with a touch of gold seeming that the sun was making her highlights stand out. I walked outside catching up to her when she was walking into the car, I told her that we didn't have to go today, knowing that she had came out of her first job and she had to rest.
"Ama let's just go on the weekend so you can rest, yeah?" I spoke softly, seeing her crumbled up in her seat wanting to get comfortable.
"No that's okay I promised you that we were getting your Quinceanera dress today and we are going. A promise is a promise, okay?" she replied sounding firm as she said the last part.
"Orale pues ama."
She then started the car with a quick silence making the moment feel awkward only hearing the sound of keys clinging together against each other. As I looked through the rear mirror I saw the veins in her pupil’s red and tired with bags under her eyes without any sleep.
She had always put her children first and made time for them but didn't have enough left for herself. Sometimes I thought about how she never got to do the things I did or have the things that I had but she is a strong woman who works to give her children the things that she and my dad never had.
When we were getting out of the last store, I looked at another store that was right next door, surprisingly I gasped to the appearance of the most beautiful Quinceanera dress that I had always imagined. I ran to get my mom's hand dragging her all the way inside the store wanting her to have the same reaction as I did when I saw the dress.
"That's the one," I blurted out.
"Oh my god, it's amazingly beautiful, yup that's the one." she said bringing her eyes to sparkle with the shine in the beads.
It was the perfect tone of color, green with a texture of gold mixed into it making it glow bright as the colors of a tree. It was impressingly poofy and sparkling having a corset designed with all these silver beads coming together to form beautiful little flowers, sparkling to the touch of light. At the center of the corset there was a thin piece of fabric that was bright green with only four diamonds in the middle making the dress come together being perfect, as I always imagined.
When we were sealing the deal with the story lady she had very big glasses and it was strange that she had measuring tape around her neck ever since we came in. After that I knew she had to measure my sizes and somehow she knew from the beginning that I was going to get the dress already. At that time I had realized that I was going to wear the most beautiful dress on my Quinceanera day, and this was all thanks to my mom. When I heard the store lady say,
"It's all yours, sold." I couldn't make my ears translate the words so that I could realize it was really true.
The first thing that I did was go over to my mom and give her the biggest hug ever. It was so warm and reliving to have all this happiness land into her arms as appreciation. I stood looking back at her with silence; suddenly she broke the silence saying that if this made me happy it made her happy.
"I am so thankful for you working so hard to make me this dream a reality." I said, comforting myself in her arms.
"Karina, even though I didn't have a Quinceanera it makes me happy that with you having one, everyone's dreams come true." she said radiantly having a big smile.

THE ORiGiN Of ZERO?

What strikes you about the articles? The thing that strikes me about the articles is that they talk a lot about the origin in where the number zero came from, and how people used it in different states and countries. It also stiked me that it was mostly geography that had to do with the existence of the number and because people found evidence that they used it 5,000 years ago. This number is really easy to understand because it’s like if it didn’t exist but it has a symbol that replaces a number, but means a different place value holder. There was a part which caught my eye, it talked about how in different states they use this number in different forms and was odd seeing it used like that in these days.

How do we decide who discovers what? When someone gets his/her invention named after them.

Who really discovered zero? In the articles it doesn’t really tell who discovers zero, but it says where it came from and how long ago it traveled to different kinds of people. However, one of the articles explains somewhat of where this number originally came from, because Charles Seife had given some information.
"There are at least two discoveries, or inventions, of zero," says Charles Seife, author of Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea (Viking, 2000). "The one that we got the zero from came from the Fertile Crescent." It first came to be between 400 and 300 B.C. in Babylon, Seife says, before developing in India, wending its way through northern Africa and, in Fibonacci's hands, crossing into Europe via Italy.

Is it the person who came up with the concept of zero or the person who discovered the actual number? It was the person who came up with the concept of the number zero because he introduced it to everybody but he disn't quite discover it.
And how did the entire world come to a consensus without an efficient means of communication? Because the number zero came to being from one country to the other and that's how it spread all over the world but it had a differet symbol to it.

LiTERARy dEViCES

Catching the signal from one of her friends, Adriana brushed her skirt, took a deep breath and walked towards where he was sitting. She couldn’t believe that he was right there feeling his warm arm touching hers every time she got closer. As she looked towards Miguel she seemed overly happy and delusional to the fact that he just came to see her. When she reached out to say hi, he grabbed her shoulder and gave her a kiss on the cheek. This made Adriana turn red as a tomato feeling butterflies in her stomach and giggling every time he said something awkward.
Making a stop in front of Horton Plaza, Miguel suddenly starts conversating with Adriana wile they were walking into the mall.
“Hey how was your day today at school.” He said in a deep silent voice awkwardly bumping in to a trash can.
“Well it was pretty alright, I guess and you?” She said laughing at him while he was putting the trash can in to place.
“Yea, well the same old same old, it never changes.”
They had walked all over the mall wanting to go to the movies but none of them dared to invite each other. This was like the time when Adriana was still in middle school ad her crush wanted to go to the movies but never had the nerve to invite her. It was pretty clear to Adriana how guys were just really shy when it came to showing some sensibility. Miguel was totally different from the guys Adriana hanged out with because he was more mature and she liked his clown personality over all.
As they came across the movies again Miguel finally asked Adriana if she wanted to see a movie.
“Hey let’s go in and see a scary movie, yea?” He said nervously playing with his fingers.
“No not really, I don’t have money right now.” She replied looking the other way.
“Oh that’s okay I’ll pay for you okay”
“No I don’t want you to.”
“Come on for reals.”
“Oh my god no.”
“Fine then, but were still going in, because your coming with me.” He said firmly.
Meanwhile the line for the movie tickets was getting shorter, Adriana was mad and didn’t like the idea as much. You could tell by the fierce expression that she had when you looked at her in the eyes. When it was time for Miguel to pay for the movie tickets, Adriana realized that she was wrong in having such a bad attitude earlier, and gave Miguel a big long hug. She knew now that he was doing this so he could spend more time with her.
